A good emergency plan helps people stay safe, connected, and supported — especially during stressful situations. Make a Plan means deciding ahead of time what to do, where to go, and who to contact during an emergency.
Ready.gov and ReadyPA.gov recommend building a plan that includes communication steps, meeting places, evacuation routes, medication needs, assistive technology, service animals, and transportation. For individuals with ID/A, planning also includes sensory needs, communication preferences, behavioral supports, and identifying trusted people who can help.
Supports Coordinators and DSPs play a key role in helping individuals build plans that match their abilities, routines, and comfort levels. AEs and providers can use these tools to strengthen preparedness across their networks.
This includes templates, checklists, social stories, and examples to help every person create a plan that works for them.
