March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Governor Josh Shapiro recently signed an official proclamation declaring March 2026 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. The governor’s full proclamation can be read here. Some highlights include:

WHEREAS, this month is an important time to recognize and honor the abilities, talents, and contributions of individuals with developmental disabilities; and

WHEREAS, individuals with developmental disabilities are an integral part of our society, making meaningful contributions to our communities, workplaces, and culture; and

WHEREAS, a developmental disabilities is defined as a severe, chronic, ongoing disability that is attributable to mental or physical impairment or a combination of mental and physical impairments, and is expected to be lifelong
