Pennsylvania is one of many states to prioritize competitive integrated employment as the first consideration and preferred outcome for working-age individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or autism. But employment is only half the goal. Support professionals also must be ready to help individuals be “in and of their community,” including when they are not working.
The event addressed:
• What is community life engagement and why is it important
• The relationship between a community-based life and work
• Recent federal guidance on community-based support models
